UPDATE: I wrote the post below on Nov 22nd. On Nov 23rd the ad was missing from the skyline, though I did hear from a little bird that someone forwarded the link to the Harbour Grand…
Last night I had dinner with friends at Wooloomooloo on the waterfront in Kowloon. As we got comfortable with our drinks, we looked admiringly at the Hong Kong skyline before noticing something we couldn’t help but laugh at. There on a building across the harbour was an ad in large red lettering that simply read, “Monk Fish Special.”

Doppio Zero is a new Hong Kong eatery that gets its name from “00.”
It’s “the finest flour available in Italy and the only type of flour we use to make our fresh pasta….We at Doppio Zero live by three basic principles: handmade pasta, powerful Italian recipes and seasonal ingredients.”
This sounds like a great idea and their pastas might be fantastic, but when I saw that half the menu’s pasta dishes are made with “imported dry pasta from Italy,” I didn’t even sit down. If you’re going to make a bold claim, please live by it.
